Granny made notes by her recipes. I love to read her notes and to look at the dates or event when she served a particular dish. (Georgia is my mom and Nancy is my aunt.)

We had a tennis birthday party to attend Saturday night and I was sure that our friends would enjoy Hot Virginia Dip in between tennis matches.
Here it is, hot out of the oven.
I took this picture when the dip was a steaming hot, thus it looks a bit runny. As it cools, it firms up.
I’ve yet to meet anyone who doesn’t like this. If you are starting to think about Super Bowl parties, consider making this dip for your friends. They’ll love you for it!
Hot Virginia Dip
1 cup pecans, chopped
2 tsp butter
16 oz cream cheese, softened
4 T milk
5 oz dried beef, minced
1 tsp garlic salt
1 cup sour cream
4 tsp onion, minced
Directions:
Sauté pecans in butter. Reserve. Mix all ingredients thoroughly. Place in a 1 1/2 quart baking dish, top with pecans. Chill until serving time. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes. Serve hot with crackers or small bread sticks.
My Notes:
~I used low fat cream cheese and sour cream and I left out the onion.
~I sprayed my pan with cooking spray before adding the dip.
~It took 30 minutes for my dip to get super hot.
Paula, this looks yummy. I have a family gathering next month and I'll give this a try. Thanks for the recipe and what a great gift to have your grandmother's book with her handwriting.
ReplyDeleteYummy! This looks like something my family would enjoy and a great way to use up my pecans. (5 pecan trees in our front yard!)
ReplyDeleteWhat is dried beef?
I am always looking for good dip recipes, and this looks yummy. I'll have to try it! Carla
ReplyDeleteIt looks sooo good!! I bet it would be yummy served on a crusty bread too. Thanks for sharing, Paula. :)
ReplyDeleteThis looks delicious! And how wonderful that you have your grandmother's copy of that beautiful book! I treasure the few things I have with my grandmother's handwriting. :)
ReplyDeleteGood morning Paula. I have a similar recipe as yours and I think being a Virginia girl myself, I need to rename mine!
ReplyDeleteLove the looks of your old family cookbook. I too love to write dates and notes in mine. It will be fun for others to read down the line.
Love this dip!
Mmmmmm, that looks yummy. How great that you have this family heirloom.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds so good. I love fixing different types of dips when we have gatherings so I will have to add this next time we have one.
ReplyDeleteI also love it came from your grandmother cookbook. I have a couple of written recipes that were my grandmothers.
Question...we both have the same everyday dishes and the dish you have your dip in looks to be a casserole dish. Am I right? I did nto know they have serving pieces to this pattern. I will have to check this out. I never saw any when I got ours.
Paula, I LOVE Hot Virginia Dip and have the Virginia Hospitality cookbook. I make that dip often. I have yet to meet anyone who doesn't love it as you said. That cookbook has many wonderful recipes. It's one of my favorite cookbooks that I use often.
ReplyDeleteI have that same cookbook! I haven't looked at it for a long time ~ thanks for the reminder. The dip looks delish.
ReplyDeleteLooks scrumptious, I think I'll try it but without the pecans. I can't stand them but I think I'll make this for my Super Bowl Party.
ReplyDeleteNow that looks delicious!
ReplyDeleteMmmmm, sounds AND looks yummy! Interesting combination of ingredients - I might have to try it out :-)
ReplyDeleteYAY! I've been waiting for you to post this recipe! It sounds YUMMY! I love everything in it so I'm definitely putting it on my football party list. Thanks Paula!
ReplyDeleteI misplaced my Virginia Hospitality, and your post saved me tonight! Me, and my holiday party thank you!
