It’s been hot. Really hot. It’s the time of year where pots, even large ones, need to be watered twice a day. I have two coco-lined planters that I just can’t keep from drying out when the temperatures are in the 90’s day after day. A few years ago my friend, Miss Char from
Grace and Favor, shared a tip with me that really works: fill empty wine bottles with water and simply insert into the soil. The water will slowly drip out, giving your plants the water they need during extra hot and dry summer temperatures.
With strategic placement, the bottles are hardly noticeable.
If you are going away for a night or two and don’t want to bother a neighbor to water your plants, give this trick a try. It really works!

Paula, this is a great tip! I struggle to keep up with watering my deck plants. I'll definitely give this a try! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea!
ReplyDeleteWow! Great idea - and even if they are noticeable - the wine bottles are still pretty! I'm just wondering how the water doesn't just all flow out at once and drown the plants. I guess at an angle? Thanks!
ReplyDeletePerfect tip! Will do! (Your flowers look great!)
ReplyDeleteGreat tip, Paula! Thanks for sharing. Carla

ReplyDeleteUh, you sure have a lot of empty wine bottles. Tee Hee....I'm a fine one to talk.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! I'm hoping diet pepsi 2 liter bottles will have the same result.
ReplyDeleteYou forgot the part about drinking the WTW first...so you would have enough bottles to cover all your planters. :)
