My Version of a Fabulous Purse

I hope I don’t get arrested for this.

A bunch of my tennis friends have Hardware by Renee purses. I examined Jeanie’s last week after tennis and decided that I could make my own.

This is the one Jeannie has:

I decided to make a version of this purse.

I sketched and measured and then set off to the fabric store to buy supplies. I love my Mr. SP and how he readily volunteers to help with my projects. When I got home with the vinyl and upholstery tacks, he then set off for the hardware store to purchase grommets, wire, rivets, and snaps. We were then all set to make a purse.

Last Sunday we cut out the base, sanded it, and stained it. I cut out the vinyl for the sides and the project stopped there for the week.

The weekend is here – back to work! I hemmed the sides of the vinyl and assembled all of the “stuff” that we needed.

I carefully measured the base and then sewed the pieces together.

Yeah! It fits!

We then made holes for the grommets.

I used Mr. SP’s big vise to close each grommet.

Grommets complete!

We then added two snaps.

I then glued the bottom of the purse to the wooden base.

After the glue dried, I nailed upholstery tacks through the vinyl to the base.

Mr. SP made the handles.

I’m sharing my project for Metamorphosis Monday at Between Naps on the Porch and for DIY Day at A Soft Place to Land.
This is my favorite March DYI project, so I'm also sharing it at Tracy's Beneath My Heart.

    1) It's much larger than I thought from the first picture.

    2) That took A LOT of work to make

    3) I like it - - - a LOT

  7. Great job!! Love it.

Ya'll are so cute working on your projects together. Always makes me smile.

BTW, you won't be arrested unless you try to sell it as a designer original.

  9. Great...I like it better than the original brand. I remember these types of purses were popular when I was in my early 20's.

  14. Wow! That's amazing! Seriously awesome job. I look at just about everything with an eye for "how could I make that?", but I don't think I would have even attempted that one.
