Christmas Curb Appeal - 2010

I was totally inspired by Pottery Barn’s lighted ornament garland that has been all over blogland.  Isn’t this gorgeous?

Susan at Between Naps on the Porch posted a tutorial on how to make this garland.  I was immediately sold!
I decided to make three garlands, just like the PB inspiration picture.  I purchased three 9 ft. lighted garland at Lowe’s, just as Susan suggested.  I bought the balls at Walmart for $5.00 per package.  I used 3 boxes of 12 large red, 3 boxes of 24 medium red, 3 boxes of 24 gold, and 3 boxes of 24 silver.  I had ornaments leftover from last year’s GIGANTIC Monogram S that hung on my front door, so I used them, too.
Susan’s tutorial is great.  Definitely follow it if you want to do this project.
I am lucky to have a giant basement work area.  I put the garland on my workbench, fluffed it, had my balls nearby, then cut bunches of small pieces of wire.

I then wired on the large red balls being careful to evenly space them.

Then I filled in between the large red balls with smaller red, gold, and silver balls.

It took me about an hour to do each garland.

Mr. SP gets the credit for hanging the garland.  For the top garland, he screwed eye hooks into the wood and then used zip ties to attach the garland to the eyes.  After that piece was hung, he screwed in an eye hook at the top of each column to attach the start of the garland that twist down the column.  We attached the bottom to the porch with wire.

I planned on using my S from last year for the door, but it was too big and it didn’t match as well as I had hoped.  No worries, I simply made a Boxwood S instead with a S form that Mr. SP crafted for me a few years ago with ply board.
I hate that I’m not using this again this year….

My hard work was worth it!

I haven’t mastered the art of the night-time photo.  It looks so much nicer and brighter in person!

Our house is the first in our neighborhood to be decorated for Christmas.  I love coming home at night to a lit house and I know that our neighbors enjoy our lights, too.
Now I need a a few more days of break so that I can finish decorating inside.
I’m sharing my project for Metamorphosis Monday at Susan’s Between Naps on the Porch, at Beth's sput of the moment Front Porch Party,  and at Holly's Knock-Off party.
