Free Skinny Jeans!

Did you realize that you can turn a pair of boot-cut jeans into skinny jeans with very little effort?  Really, you can!

I bought these jeans at least seven years ago.  You can tell by the color that I rarely wore them because they were just a bit too short.  They were in the Goodwill bag when I had a light bulb moment….change them to skinny jeans.

I’ll bet that you have some jeans similar to these in your closet.

These jeans are definitely not going to Goodwill now.  I really like the more fitted look that my simple alteration gave me.

The “how-to” for this project is easy.  Turn your jeans inside out and put them on.  Pin down the side where you want your new seams to go.  After pinning, use a marker to make a sewing line.  I did all of this while wearing the jeans.

It will look like this when you take your jeans off.

Sew along each seam.  I did this twice to make sure that the seams would be strong.

Cut off the excess fabric.

Serge the edge or if you are like me and don’t have a serger, run a zig-zag stitch along the edge.  Turn inside out and enjoy your free skinny jeans!
I'm sharing this project for Metamorphosis Monday at Susan's Between Naps on the Porch and for the Weekend Wrap-Up party at Tatertots and Jello.

  1. What a great idea, Paula! I need to dig in my closet and see what might be lurking. You look great in your jeans--you inspire me to work out a little harder!

  2. I too like this idea Paula. The one pair of cute tall boots I own rarely get seen because I have to wear them under most of my jeans. Great step by step! :)

  7. Well since there is no such thing as "skinny jeans" on me I will have to live with that fact, but commend you for your inspiration/epiphany in digging into the GW bag to retrieve these jeans and make them new again.

  9. You thin little girls can wear those skinny jeans, but when you're a FAT MAMA like me, free or not, skinny jeans just won't do.

Nothing worst than a fat mama forcing ALL of herself into ANYTHING skinny.
