For the Birds!

I inherited a bird print from my grandmother that was a gift to her from my parents many years ago.  My grandmother had it matted and framed to match her blue 1950’s bathroom tile.  The 80’s pink and blue themed mats didn’t quite go with my décor, so I decided to paint the mat to get the color I wanted and hoped to not spend a lot of money in the process.

The artist, now deceased, is local and the frame handmade walnut. 

I first tried painting the blue mat gold because I had some gold paint on hand and I thought it might work.  Wrong!  It was so bad that I didn’t take a picture of it.  I then took a print that I wanted to hang in a grouping along with this one to Home Depot and had a paint sample mixed in a coordinating green.  Bingo!  For less than $4.00, I now had a mat that coordinated with my grouping plan.


I like this print so much better with the green mat.  I found the print to the left of it at a local antique store and the other bird print was my grandmother’s.  This grouping fills what was a blank wall quite nicely.


Now why didn’t I do this sooner?
