Summer Reading

Today is day ten in the count down until school ends.  Nine more days until I am free to do as I please.  One thing that I'm really looking forward to is having more time to read. 

I made a trip to Sam's the other day to buy supplies for the retirement party that I'm hosting this afternoon.  (Please cross your fingers for good weather for me.)  While I was there, I couldn't resist buying two books for my summer reading pleasure.

Dorothea Benton Frank has been one of my favorite summer reading authors for a long time now.  I think I've read nearly every book that she's written.  I fell in love with the Low Country of South Carolina after reading DBF's books and it didn't disappoint when I finally visited in person.  I'll be sitting poolside with this book before I know it.

Another favorite author is Elin Hilderbrand.  Lucky for me, I have several of her books left to read.  I wanted to read this last summer but never did, then school started and I forgot all about it.


Michael Lee West of Designs by Gollum was kind enough to give away multiple copies of her new book, Gone With a Handsomer Man, and  I was a lucky winner.  I'm currently reading this book and am quite enjoying it.  I'm not far enough into it to tell you much about it, but my friend Michelle of Southern Somedays reviewed it not long ago and you can read her review here, her review of Low Country Summer here, and her review of The Island here.  I've pretty much figured out that if Michelle likes a book, I'm going to like it as well.

    Paula, I was at Sam's yesterday and picked up a couple of books....one being Low Country Summer. I love her writing style about the low country too. I'll take mine with me on my vacation next month as I'll have a lot of down time. Great minds think alike I guess :)

    Isn't that nice to have a friend who can give you good, honest reviews? The Island looks intriguing...may have to check that one out!! :)

    Yay! Lucky you! Let me know how you like those books. I would love to have one of Michael's books, it's been getting rave reviews everywhere. I keep trying to win one any chance I get...lol.

    Awwww, I want to read a book! I love to read, but I NEVER have time. I've seen The Island in the store, but haven't read any of them. Let us know what ya think. I'll have more time to read once school starts next year.

    I tend to read completely different types of books during the summer - light, relaxed reading, just like the books you've featured here. Thanks for the recommendations.

    I really love SC and go there to vacation a lot, but I've yet to read a book that really captures lowcountry the way I want it to. I haven't read any Dorothea Benton Frank, so I'll check her out at the library soon.

    We have a timeshare condo on Hilton Head, I too love the Low Country and try and visit at least once a year.

    Thanks so much for linking-up to our party! All three look great, and Elin Hilderbrand is a book club favorite (with one of my book clubs). I think it's fun when you find someone with similar tastes in books who can recommend good reads :D
