Star Fish Runner

It won’t be long before I head to the beach to spend some time with family.  My mom keeps an old wooden bowl full of pretty shells on her table and I thought she’d enjoy having a table runner to use with her bowl.  This is what I came up with and will serve as a “thanks for having me” gift.  It’s on my table now but soon enough it will be on the table at the beach.




Making this was easy!  Here’s how:

Supplies Needed:
Drop Cloth
Sewing Machine / Tread / Scissors / Iron
Starfish printed from Google
Freezer Paper
Heat N Bond
Fabric

How To:
1.  Determine the size of table runner that you’d like to make.  Cut the drop cloth to size and hem around all four sides.  I cut my drop cloth so that only two sides needed hemming.  I simply folded the side over and stitched.



2.  Find star fish images, print, and cut out.


3.  Trace images onto freezer paper, shiny side down, and cut out.



4.  Select coordinating fabrics to use for star fish.  (Heat N Bond will be used in a later step.)


5.  Set iron to medium heat and press freezer paper star fish to fabric.


5.  Cut Heat N Bond to your fabric size and then iron to the back side of fabric. 


6.  Cut star fish out and peel waxed paper stencil from the right side of fabric.  Note that the Heat N Bond paper is on the back side of the paper.


7.  Peel Heat N Bond paper off of the back side of each star fish and arrange in a pleasing pattern on runner.  Iron into place



8.  Enjoy your new table runner!
