Lynchburg Historical Foundation 2012 Tour

One of my town’s annual events is a fall historic home tour sponsored by the historical foundation.  I look forward to this tour each year and whenever possible invite my mom, aunt, and cousin to join me.   This year my mom, cousin, my cousin’s new wife, and a new friend joined me for the tour.

We started at my house with lunch and then went on the tour.




We started the tour at 1042 Greenway Court, the home of Roger and Katie Vaden.  Katie is a popular local artist and this home was chocked full of art. 



There’s a lovely small garden and pond behind the house. 



My pretty Mama stopped for a quick garden pose in this lovely backyard.



Next on the tour was 1050 Greenway Court, the home of Bill and Lea Barksdale.  This 1965 was built for the owner’s grandparents.  This home was full of color and featured a bubble gum pink library. 



A bike with a pretty basket of flowers was parked in the driveway to the left of the house.



This home had a pretty yard and a nice garden area just off of the kitchen.



This is an overgrown boxwood maze (I think).  I hope they’ll take time to do some pruning so that it doesn’t completely grow together.



On to the next house, 1108 Greenway Court, a 1955 Cape Cod, home of Garry and Sue Ford.  This house was really pretty inside and had the perfect man room in the back complete with dark wood, a fireplace, and a bar.


The screened porch on the back side of this house is really nice and overlooks a small backyard.




1109 Greenway Court, home of Frank and Gail Morrison, was built in 1952.  This home was beautifully decorated and included a very nice kitchen.  A screened porch off of the master bedroom was surrounded by pretty landscaping.


1120 Greenway Court, home of Chris and Emily Hargis, was built in 1930 using native Virginia White Quartz believed to have come from White Rock Hill, one of Lynchburg’s original “Seven Hills.”



A young couple lives here and they’ve done a nice job of both restoring the house and making it not only pretty, but family friendly.



1226 Greenway Court, home of Margaret Whitaker, was built in 1940.  The owner is an architect and has done a fabulous job of remodeling this home.  The addition to the right of the house is the new kitchen.  The refrigerator is recessed into the nonfunctioning chimney.

What a great tour!  The houses were interesting and the weather could not have been more perfect.

This cute little guy said hi as we walked back to our car.
