Beautyberry and Other Fall Blooms

Beautyberry and Other Fall Blooming Plants

Fall is in full swing here in Virginia.  The leaves are changing and the last of the fall blooming plants are putting on a show.

Late last summer I planted a Beautyberry.  This spring I accidentally cut it to the ground thinking it was a weed.  Oops!  It survived and is covered in beautiful purple berries.

My asters took a beating this summer when two pine trees fell on top of the patch.  They survived and are just starting to bloom.  These should get prettier as the week goes on and provide several weeks of enjoyment.

My anemones that I blogged about at the beginning of the month continue to put on a show.  If you have a deer problem, be sure to keep these sprayed or you’ll have no blooms.  This is my best blooming year for them in a long time.

I lost a lot of mums when the tree trucks ran through one of my flower beds but the remaining clumps are blooming prettily.

Our grass growing isn’t going so well as you can see in the picture above.  We are hoping that cutting back on watering and warm temperatures this week might do the trick.

Are you enjoying fall blooms in your yard?

  2. Beautyberry is new to me. It is so colorful, almost looks fake! Love all these colors. I was in Leesburg 2 weeks ago (from New Jersey) for some antiquing and the colors hadn't really started to change yet on the trees. Love all your pretty pictures. Glad to have found your sweet blog.
